Youth Excellence Award

The SIDA Youth Excellence Award continues into its third year in 2026, reaffirming SIDS’ commitment to recognising and nurturing outstanding young interior design talents from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) in Singapore.

First introduced in 2024, this special award celebrates exceptional creativity, innovation, and design potential among students who demonstrate a strong passion for the discipline and a desire to shape the future of the built environment. The award aims to inspire and empower emerging talents as they take their first steps towards becoming future leaders in the design industry.

As part of this initiative, SIDS is proud to offer an annual student bursary programme, awarding SGD 3,000 each to deserving students enrolled in spatial design courses at local IHLs recognised by the Ministry of Education. This bursary supports students’ academic and creative growth, while encouraging a culture of design excellence within the educational and professional design community.

The bursary programme also builds on the earlier SIDA Youth Awards, launched in 2020, which continues to provide students with platforms for exposure, mentorship, and professional development. Together, these initiatives reflect SIDS’ long-term vision of cultivating a vibrant, forward-looking interior design ecosystem in Singapore.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Open to students who are:

a. Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents (PRs), or International Students currently studying in Singapore.

b. Enrolled in SIDS-recognised interior/spatial design programmes offered by local Institutes of Higher Learning or private design institutions.

2. Eligible levels of study:

a. Diploma Year 2 and Year 3 students.

b. Fresh diploma graduates (graduated within the past 12 months), especially those:

  1. Waiting to commence university studies, or
  2. Awaiting National Service (NS).

c. Undergraduate students in interior/spatial design (e.g., Degree Year 1 to Final Year).

Note: Final-year diploma students awaiting university acceptance may still apply. Official proof of application or intent is encouraged but not mandatory.

3. Project submission must be academic in nature and completed between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026.

Submission Requirements

1. A concept write-up of 150–200 words in English describing each submitted project.

2. A minimum of four (4) completed academic projects, including:

  1. At least one (1) layout plan of each submitted project in PDF format.
  2. A minimum of five (5) images of each submitted project in JPG or PNG format (1920 × 1080 pixels), in landscape orientation.

3. At least one (1) academic transcript or result slip(s) from the current institution in PDF format.

4. Letter(s) of recommendation from:

  1. Academic mentors or course leaders, and/or
  2. Internship supervisors (if available), highlighting work ethic, design potential, or professional attitude.

5. Proof of involvement in design-related activities, including:

  1. Participation in design competitions, exhibitions, or showcases.
  2. CCA involvement (e.g., SIDS Student Chapter, ID interest groups).
  3. Community contributions or volunteer work in the design field (if any).
Judging Criteria

Submission content must clearly demonstrate the following:

1. Passion and commitment to design - 30%

  1. Demonstrates interest, passion and commitment to spatial design through studies, hobbies, partakes in competitions and/ or extra-curricular activities.

2. Flair and competency for design - 50%

  1. Demonstrates a flair for spatial design (through portfolio of works), with a good initial grasp for conceptualisation, design translation)
  2. Maintains good grades in school (Distinctions/GPA)

3. Contribution to design community - 20%

  1. Student Leader in school CCA, student member/office bearer of SIDS Student Chapter
Additional Notes
  1. Students who have graduated must submit proof of graduation and either a university acceptance letter or declaration of future study plans.
  2. Submission must be the student's original academic work and should not infringe on any copyrights.
